Built to Fly Further—With Less Weight
Thanks to its lightweight construction, the ION 7 Light takes off with minimal effort. Whether you’re on a hike-and-fly adventure or launching from a remote ridge, inflation is smooth and controlled. Not only that, but it also stays rock-solid during ground handling, even when the wind is inconsistent. As a result, your takeoffs become smoother, quicker, and more enjoyable.
Moreover, the lighter fabric doesn’t compromise strength. Because Nova uses proven, durable materials, this wing resists wear while staying compact and easy to carry. Therefore, every hike feels lighter, and every packdown is faster.
Nova ION 7 Light Precision Handling for Maximum Control
Handling is where the Nova ION 7 Light Paraglider truly shines. With responsive brake travel and finely tuned feedback, the wing gives you complete control over your flight path. Consequently, thermalling becomes more intuitive. Likewise, tight turns feel clean, and transitions between cores are smoother than ever.
Furthermore, the wing reacts immediately but never unpredictably. That balance of responsiveness and forgiveness builds confidence quickly—especially when flying new sites or tackling longer flights.
Performance that Progresses with You
Pilots looking to expand their range and refine their technique will love what the ION 7 Light brings to the sky. While it’s gentle enough for less experienced pilots, it still offers serious cross-country capability. So, whether you’re just stepping into the EN B category or returning to active flying, this wing delivers.
Additionally, the optimized profile and line geometry reduce drag and enhance glide. As a result, you’ll find yourself connecting thermals more easily and flying longer routes with less effort.
Nova ION 7 Light Safety That Never Rests
Above all, safety remains central to the Nova design philosophy. That’s why the Nova ION 7 Light Paraglider features outstanding passive safety characteristics. ION 7 light – light versatility
An excellent all-rounder. The ION 7 was developed using NOVA’s new design software, which was already successfully utilised for the creation of the XENON and the MENTOR 7/Light. The result is a top-notch all-rounder that covers all aspects of paragliding with ease. Be it small packing volume, easy launch, efficient cross-country flying, dynamic flight manoeuvres or an elegant flare on landing.
Innovative details. Choosing the right cloth is only one aspect when it comes to lightweight paragliders. The ION 7 Light uses tried and tested materials as well as a clever construction. Nova’s new Rod Loops mean fewer seams and additionally support the inflow of air (Air Scoop). With the Mid Cell Links the stability of the leading edge is further optimised – which benefits performance especially in accelerated flight, without adding more weight
As safe as never before
The latest version of Nova design software can even simulate flight manoeuvres such as collapses very accurately. In this way, Nova has achieved an unprecedented combination of stability and benign collapse behaviour in the ION 7. Even in accelerated flight, the reactions to collapses are extraordinarily gentle. The flight characteristics of the ION 7 also make it possible to try out the initial SIV manoeuvres without stress.
XC on top form. In terms of design, the ION 7 (Light) is based on the XC wing MENTOR 7/Light. The flight feeling is characterised by very high stability with exceptional top speed, which is usually found in high-end EN B gliders. In addition, it has very good glide performance, an easy to operate speed-bar and a thermalling feeling of “it takes all in its stride”. Descent manoeuvres such as big ears, B-line stall and spiral dive are also simple to perform. What more could one want to go cross-country flying safely and comfortably?
Fun with freestyle. Thanks to its direct handling and high stability, the ION 7 makes it easy to get started with acro manoeuvres. The SAT can be flown cleanly; wingovers are agile. Stalls are easy to perform, and helicopters work well. The brake travel to the stall point is very long, making an unintentional stall extremely unlikely. With the ION 7, you can safely enter the world of acro and hone your skills.
Pilot target group
The ION 7 Light (EN/LTF B) is suitable for enthusiastic beginners as well as advanced pilots who value the versatility of their paraglider. Cross-country, hike & fly and acro – anything is possible without sacrificing comfort and safety.
Intelligent lightweight
NOVA’s intelligent lightweight gliders are developed according to the motto “as light as possible, but as stable as necessary”. This means the canopy is made from cloths that offer a combination of long durability and consistent profile shape (= performance) with low weight. This also applies to the actual construction of the glider. When it comes to handling, they make no concessions. The ION 7 Light features: Sturdy 12 mm narrow Kevlar risers. Maillons for easier re-trimming. Sheathed main lines for easier sorting.
NOVA’s smart lightweight paragliders are light, fully suitable for everyday use AND durable. You can recognise them by the “Light” suffix in the paraglider name and they come with the comprehensive NOVA guarantee.
New features
Optimised collapse behaviour. The ION 7 exhibits unprecedented gentleness when it comes to collapses. During asymmetric collapses, the glider turns only minimally, and there is little loss of height. Nova has achieved these properties through simulations in their new design software, which offers them new possibilities in development. This means they not only select the virtual prototypes with the highest performance, but also those with the best collapse behaviour from a large number of simulations. The result is the stable and safe flying feeling of the ION 7.
Performance through stability. If you look at the leading edge of the ION 7, you will notice the new Rod Loops and Mid Cell Links. The former save on seams and assist the Air Scoop, while the latter ensure a solid leading edge, especially in accelerated flight, and also serve to optimise internal pressure. Both are smart solutions that deliver performance.
Standard riser or XC Riser. The ION 7 Light is supplied as standard with a 12 mm narrow and sturdy Kevlar riser. In addition, the riser features Ronstan pulleys for less effort when pushing the speed-bar and Fidlock magnets for uncomplicated fixing of the brake handles. Pilots who want to fly even more efficiently with the speed-bar can optionally purchase the ION 7 XC Riser.
Nova ION 7 Light Designer’s notes
“My search space for optimisation has been increased thanks to our new design software. Now I can find solutions in the design that were previously outside the realm of possibility. For the ION 7 this means that a very high level was already achieved before we had the first prototype sewn to begin the practical tests.”
— Philipp Medicus, Head of R&D at NOVA
Weight comparison ION 7 vs. ION 7 Light
Technology
Think outside the box.
Instead of dividing the in-built rods and fixing both curved pieces with seams, the rods here simply form a loop. This saves on seams, supports the Air Scoop principle and has no disadvantages in terms of weight and packing volume.
Consistent at top speed.
Using thin webbing at the leading edge, the upper and lower surfaces are connected in the middle of each cell. This promotes leading edge solidity in flight, which is particularly beneficial to performance when flying at speed.
Comfort on the ground.
All NOVA paragliders are made to be easy to use. For packing you can use a concertina bag, but it is not essential. Their extensive experience with rods has taught them that the packing method has little influence on the durability of the wing. Bent rods quickly spring back into their original shape.
Less knots, less wind resistance.
This wing has two line galleries: main lines and gallery lines, but there is no middle gallery. This means only very few line elements and as a result, they are very simple to sort.
Flat profile nose.
Anyone who tries to fold a piece of paper around a ball will notice that there are always creases. The nose profile of a paraglider is the same – the sail cloth has to adjust to both the profile and ballooning effect (cells are round, not straight). Double 3D Shaping uses additional seams to reduce creasing and therefore increases the performance of the wing.
Light, durable and suitable for everyday use.
Developed in line with the motto “as light as possible, and as solid as necessary”, Nova rely on a smart design and choice of materials. Where possible, they use lightweight fabric, with sturdier cloth in the areas of heavier wear. This way Nova can guarantee long durability, high performance and easy handling with little weight. The paragliders are light, fully usable for everyday flying AND durable.

Nova ION 7 Light Risers
- Standard risers
As a classic three-liner, the ION 7 light comes with a clear 3+1 riser (i.e. an A3 riser for big ears). It consists of 12 mm wide Aramid fibre-reinforced webbing, is light and uncomplicated to handle.
- Optional extra “XC Risers”
For those who want to really challenge the glider during cross-country flights – and the XC potential is high according to NOVA – there are optional XC risers. These special cross-country risers have a carbon handle on the C-riser and the B and C-risers are connected through a webbing strap and pulley. As one would expect from modern high-end EN B and high-performance paragliders, the XC riser enables effective control of roll and pitch when flying at speed, without a performance-reducing kink in the profile.
Nova ION 7 Light FAQ
What is the difference between the ION 6 light and the ION 7 light?
Thanks to NOVA’s new innovative design software, the ION 7 light offers an increase in performance and stability as well as more direct handling compared to its predecessor. There is also an advantage in terms of top speed as well as a further improvement in collapse behaviour.
How can I convert the ION 7 light risers to the XC Risers?
Yes – because with the ION 7 light, all common manoeuvres and descent techniques can be learned and executed within the comfortable safety of the EN B class. With their new design software, we can accurately predict the collapse behaviour of the ION 7 light, which is extremely good-natured. With the ION 7 light you have the ideal glider for safety training.
The best way to pack your ION 7 light is to use the Stuff Sack and Riser Bag, both of which are included. You will find step-by-step instructions with pictures in the manual. Alternatively, you can utilise Nova Concertina Bag Light, Compression Bag or Quick Pack Bag.
The primary difference is the weight, because the ION 7 Light uses the lightest cloths in accordance with Nova “Intelligent Lightweight” motto. These materials offer both long durability and better profile shape. This also means a smaller packing volume. The ION 7 Light is perfect for hike & fly. Good to know: whether “Light” or not – we provide the same, comprehensive NOVA guarantee for both models of the ION 7.
The ION 7 (Light) is certified as EN/LTF B and is therefore only approved for instruction in countries that allow EN B gliders for training. However, in the NOVA range it is positioned below the high-end EN B MENTOR and features large safety reserves. This makes it ideal for individual progression after basic training.
Thanks to the new NOVA design software, we can test more intensively in the simulation on the computer even before the first prototype is sewn. This means that we have a much wider range of design possibilities and combinations. This makes it possible to identify exactly the “sweet spot” and go into the practical tests with an already very refined prototype.
A place without major temperature fluctuations or direct sun is best. If possible, store the paraglider loosely folded in the stuff sack. Please avoid prolonged storage in a compressed state (in the Concertina Bag Light or Compression Bag). You can find more information about paraglider care in the manual.
